While living in Kansas City, Kansas, Tom started his musical studies at the age of 10 playing piano and guitar influenced by the recordings of great blues musicians like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Son House. In 1998, Tom is accepted into the prestigious Indiana University School of Music to study double bass and moves to Bloomington, Indiana.
At Indiana University, Tom studies composition and participates in weekly classical lessons with double-bass pedagogue Bruce Bransby and studies with jazz pedagogues David Baker and Pat Harbison. He participates in master classes with musicians Dave Leibman, Fred Hersch, Dave Holland, John Scofield, Christian McBride, John Abercrombie, James Moody, Kenny Garrett, Lynne Arriale, Drew Gress, Greg Osby, Chris Potter or Jamey Haddad.
In 1998 Tom begins his professional career performing in Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus or Louisville with jazz greats such as Melvin Rhyne, Claude Sifferlen, Rob Dixon or Steve Allee. Tom moves to Chicago and frequents sessions led by sax legend Von Freeman at the New Apartment Lounge and studies jazz with Chicago bass veteran Dennis Carroll. In 2002 Tom graduates from Indiana University with honors and moves to Barcelona, Spain.
Since settling in Barcelona, Tom has recorded at least 15 records, has performed in jazz festivals in over 15 countries spanning 4 continents and has recorded numerous television series.
He currently performs in the groups of Elisabet Raspall ‘Plujazz’ feat. Chris Cheek, Marc Ayza Group, Raynald Colom Quartet, Xavi Casellas Quintet, Mark Aanderud Trio or Manolo Gutierrez Trio among others.
Tom is one of the most in demand sideman in Spain and has shared the bandstand with artists such as, Chico Freeman, Bennie Wallace, Mulgrew Miller, Steve Grossman, David Sanchez, Mark Turner, Aaron Parks, Rick Margitza, Arthur Blythe, Antoine Roney, Matt Renzi, Richie Coles, Jessie Davis, Claudia Acuña, Noah Preminger, Antonio Serrano, Pierre De Bethman, Concha Buika, Joe Magnarelli, Aaron Goldberg, El Niño Joséle, Baptiste Trotignon, Seamus Blake, Steve Cardenas, Avram Fefer, Ryan Blotnick, Brannen Temple, Colin Stranahan, Donald Brown, Tim Ries, Nat Su, Charles Davis, Ben Sidran, Bob Rockwell, Mario Castro, Perico Sambeat, Maria Neckam, Abdu Salim, Jerry Gonzalez, Chris Cheek, Aruan Ortiz, Kevin Mahogany, Danny Grissett, Rob Garcia, Damon Brown, Jorge Rossi, Judy Niemac or Alvin Queen.
